Microsoft PowerPivot for Microsoft
Excel 2010 provides ground-breaking technology; fast manipulation of large data
sets, streamlined integration of data, and the ability to effortlessly share
your analysis through Microsoft SharePoint.
Please make sure that Microsoft SQL Server 2012 SP1 Power Pivot is
installed in your computer.
If you have Power Pivot installed
in your computer, you would see “Power Pivot” tab once you open any excel
spreadsheet.
If you are sure that Power Pivot is
installed but you still don’t see the “Power Pivot” tab then use file options
to enable it.
Go to File à Options
Then go to “Add Ins”. Select “COM
Add-Ins” under Manage drop down and click on “Go”
Ensure Power Pivot is selected as
shown below. Click on OK.
In order to check the version of
Power Pivot installed - open any Excel spreadsheet and click on “Settings”
button under “PowerPivot” tab.

You will see version listed as
below. The current version is “11.0.3000.0”.
If yours is anything lesser, then it is recommended to install the latest one.
To check which version of Office is
installed in your computer, open any Office application (Word, Excel, Power
Point etc…) and go to File à
Help. You will see the version listed as below.
It is recommended to first
UNINSTALL the existing Power Pivot before you INSTALL the new one. So while the
file is being downloaded, Go to Start à
Control Panel à
and click on “Program and Features”. Check if you have “Microsoft SQL Server
2012 Power Pivot for Excel 32-bit (or 64-bit)” installed.
If you see any version of Power
Pivot installed. Right click and click on “Uninstall”.
Now after the download of relevant
file (x86 or x64 Power Pivot) is complete, locate the exc file downloaded and
double click on it.
Click on “Run” when prompted.
Click on “Next”
Go through the wizard to install
Power Pivot.
TIP: During your work if you feel like PowerPivot is
responding slowly, one way to reset is to Go to file option à Add Ins and uncheck Power
Pivot option and then go back and check it again.
TIP: If above tweak doesn’t work efficiently, then you
might try to uninstall and install Power Pivot again.
